Let parents choose one invoice or instalments

Some families want to pay for a whole term at once, others want to split it up. Ask on the enrollment, and invoice each order by the answer.

The payment choice is still Invoice for everyone. The answer to the question tells you how to invoice. See Order or invoice at enrollment? for why we recommend that enrollment only creates an order.

Add the question to the sale

On a course: open the course, go to the Sales tab and open Custom fields on the sale. On a course template: go to Custom fields and choose Use custom fields. Every course you create from the template then gets the question.

  1. Click Add field.
  2. Choose Choice as Field type.
  3. Enter for example "How do you want to pay?" in Question.
  4. Add the options, for example "One invoice", "Two instalments" and "Four instalments".
  5. Tick Required, so the customer has to answer before the enrollment is done.
  6. Click Save field, and save the sale.

Answers already given keep the question as it was when the customer answered.

See what the customer answered

Open the order. On the order line, click View custom fields to see the answer.

Invoice by the answer

One invoice: click Create invoice on the order.

Instalments: click Advanced invoicing on the order. Under How to invoice, choose:

  • Periodic invoice for several equal instalments. Choose Number of invoices and Interval between invoices, and click Schedule invoices. The invoices aren't sent by themselves. You're reminded of each one when it's due, and send it with one click.
  • Split into two invoices for an amount now and the rest later, for example a deposit.

Scheduled invoices for all orders are under Orders → Scheduled invoices. You can invoice several at once there.
